Angels and ministers of grace defend us....

"Unsubstantiated" not in the sense the incident didn't happen, but that there was judicial impropriety. If a judge doesn't do something to school because of allegiance to that school (a la the judge in the Peter Warrick shoplifting case in Tallahassee a few years ago) then you take it to another judge. Or you call a special prosecutor. Or else you shut up and get over it.

And I guess my response to most of the allegations is.....so what? What do you propose? UK should drop basketball? Why should they be the sacrificial lamb? If there are student athletes that commit crimes, then they should be punished under the law. As for how the university deals with them, that's up to the university. And what makes atheletes different? What if we went through UC right now and drug tested randomly; everyone who fails gets expelled; well, the classes would sure decrease in size, wouldn't they?

Other than your usual moping and instigating, I'm not sure of your point here....are you suggesting that UK drop basketball? If so, fine, but then you should be consistent and use the same criteria to force other programs to do the same. Or are you suggesting that their records all be marked with an asterisk, i.e. they're the winningest 'tainted' program, and would carry a separate list for 'non-tainted' programs (and BTW, spare me if you view IU as a 'non-tainted' program).

Big-time sports is corrupt, no question about it. The 'scholar-athlete' exists at the DII and DIII level for sure. But big-time, it's a joke. I don't like it, but I accept it, and UK should not be the sacrificial lamb. Make Miami (FL) drop football, maybe there's an argument.

    And one other thing....

I have sat in Rupp Arena, I have heard fans in the row behind me yell that they should stop playing "N"-ball. No question those fans who have that "something extra" exist. It is disgraceful and there is no excuse for it. But not all UK fans act that way. And I do not believe Lexington to be the only place where that goes on. I have not sat in Neyland Stadium and watched the Big Orange, I have never been between the hedges to watch the Dawgs, I have never been in Fayetteville to hear "woo pig sooey" 15 thousand times a day, but I would guess that kind of crap goes on there, too.

But then maybe not. Maybe Lexington Kentucky is the only racist town in the U.S., maybe Rupp was the only racist coach, maybe UK is the sole rule-breaker of the NCAA.

And don't tell me there isn't a neck crowd in Bloomington that had some choice words for Mike Davis....

    Merciful God, please forgive him...

I posted my motivation for posting this stuff in the very first paragraph. I suggest you hone up on why I started this thread before you go on needlessly about UK ending its basketball program.

And the stuff about the special prosecutor? Does this have relevance to the discussion? Uh, no. It does not. Not at all. None. Zero. Zilch.

The guy admitted to a hit and run. Was convicted. Then another UK player comes forth and admits to the hit and run. That's precious.

Am I being harsh to you here? No. I kind of expect more out of you, instead I consistently get less.

I've had 25 years of experience with UK fans, beginning with my best friend from childhood (may he rest in peace) who went off to Lexington in 1980. Then it was a boss I worked for. Then it was...well, countless others. Universally, it was the obnoxious crap that never ends.

It's just fucking basketball, UK fans. Get over it. Your shit DOES stink - and it stinks more than others.

I think DUIs are a very serious thing, particularly when they happen en masse and after an incident involving two vehicular homicides.

To your question, "So what?" I say, "A lot."

ps. if there *were* be a sacrificial lamb, yes, it should be UK. They represent the worst of college sports.
