"Unsubstantiated" not in the sense the incident didn't happen, but that there was judicial impropriety. If a judge doesn't do something to school because of allegiance to that school (a la the judge in the Peter Warrick shoplifting case in Tallahassee a few years ago) then you take it to another judge. Or you call a special prosecutor. Or else you shut up and get over it.
And I guess my response to most of the allegations is.....so what? What do you propose? UK should drop basketball? Why should they be the sacrificial lamb? If there are student athletes that commit crimes, then they should be punished under the law. As for how the university deals with them, that's up to the university. And what makes atheletes different? What if we went through UC right now and drug tested randomly; everyone who fails gets expelled; well, the classes would sure decrease in size, wouldn't they?
Other than your usual moping and instigating, I'm not sure of your point here....are you suggesting that UK drop basketball? If so, fine, but then you should be consistent and use the same criteria to force other programs to do the same. Or are you suggesting that their records all be marked with an asterisk, i.e. they're the winningest 'tainted' program, and would carry a separate list for 'non-tainted' programs (and BTW, spare me if you view IU as a 'non-tainted' program).
Big-time sports is corrupt, no question about it. The 'scholar-athlete' exists at the DII and DIII level for sure. But big-time, it's a joke. I don't like it, but I accept it, and UK should not be the sacrificial lamb. Make Miami (FL) drop football, maybe there's an argument.
